Kay: A Return to Creativity
Kay is a retired home economics teacher who enjoys sewing, quilting, and making beautiful accessories for her home. She also has been a floral designer and has been in the catering business. She and her husband have a beautiful country home which they remodeled themselves. They have a close-knit family, and adore their cats and dogs.
But one March, Kay’s life was interrupted when after some medical diagnostic testing, she began to have symptoms including abdominal pain and nausea. Kay was admitted to a short-term acute care hospital and diagnosed with an abdominal abscess and fistula. She was started on IV antibiotics and TPN. An abdominal drain was also placed.
Her doctors at the short-term acute care hospital transferred Kay to Kindred Hospital Louisville for continued complex wound care and rehabilitation.
Upon admission to Kindred Hospital, Kay’s received complex wound care from the Kindred wound care team, aggressive physical therapy from the rehabilitation team, IV antibiotics and IV nutrition. Her condition began to improve and she gradually became stronger. Kay remarked that the rehab staff was great and very motivating.
Kay was eventually weaned off of her IV antibiotics and IV nutrition and was able to eat a regular diet. Kay had her drain removed and her abscess healed.
She was able to return home with her husband after a 25-day stay at Kindred Hospital Louisville.
Kay continues to feel better everyday and is following up with her primary care physician. Soon she will be able to resume her favorite creative pastimes.
